Post punk forum: let's talk great albums
first, i just found that nofx's 'war on errorism' is quite fun to play along to. where's shirleythewerewolf?

but really, i'd like to point out Refused's "the shape of punk to come." the drumming is great and the album is just superb.

I havent listened to punk in forever. When i did it was Anti-flag, sex-pistols, rancid, blanks-77, blatz, the casualties(before they were rock stars), NOFX, Operation ivy, Goldfinger Misfits(they were my favorite band) , Chimi-Changa, Freax from the apocalypse, I cant remember half the bands I used to listen to. But I can still listen to all of that stuff today and i love it. But I gotta say Rush Is my favorite band nowadays

descendents - 'milo goes to college'

bill stevenson is one of the most creative drummers in punk rock.

if it wasn't for him, i wouldn't be the drummer i am today...

not that that says much...

I don't really listen to punk but I bought Bad Religion's new album and I love it. Dearly Beloved is my favorite song on the CD.

wackerman is an awesome drummer. if you like their new album, check out their last two (empire strikes first & process of belief) they're just as good (i actually think they're both better) and brook's drumming is spot on.

kudos on descendents/bill stevenson. one of my favorite drummers ever. my fave album from them would be all, or the live ones...

here's some other "desert island" punk rock discs....

dead kennedys - plastic surgery disasters
black flag - slip it in
husker du - zen arcade
bad brains - i against i
germs - gi
the crucifucks - the crucifucks
crimpshrine - lame gig contest
nomeansno - wrong
sweet baby - sweet baby
ramones - rocket to russia
screeching weasel - happy, horny, gay and sassy
neurosis - the word as law
mdc - millions of dead cops
circle jerks - group sex
x - under the big black sun
fear - the record

well, that's a start of listing my favorite punk records.

hm, i meant more of in-depth discussions of certain albums/bands. but this is good too.

i'm gonna throw out rx bandits. their drummer is damn good, and i think my favorite song to play right now is off of progress

i head a few years ago stevenson was working on a drum video, but i think it got scrapped. i was super bummed out. on a side note, he's an awesome guy. watching him play makes the hair on my arms stand up. let's not forget his work in ALL.

good call on crimpshine as well...

i'd also like to add:

misfits - walk among us
the damned - damned damned damned
bad religion - against the grain
dead kennedys - plastic surgery disasters (as well as 'give me convenience...')
wire - pink flag
jawbreaker - unfun
the dickies - dawn of the dickies

i could go on and on... for hours...

the band I just started jamming with may end up going up to tulsa to record with stephen egerton.

more in depth? let's start out with plastic surgery disasters by the dead kennedys, one of my favorite punk albums of all time.

the recording sounds sooo cheap, but yet still retains a lot of power/definition/clarity somehow. the hilarious thing to me is that the recording sounds exactly the same whether you play it on a good system or a jambox.

as awesome as jello's voice and lyrics are on this record, they would be worth nothing without the awesome twangy guitar, pumping bass and thrashy driving drums. This band can start and stop on a dime, as I can attest from seeing them many moons ago, and it comes through on the recording.

there's not a single throwaway tune on the whole record.

propagandhi

one thing i've always loved about Propagandhi is that their drummer, Jord, seriously progressed through the albums, and you can literally listen to the albums in order and track his progression.

those guys (propagandhi) are great live.

I know what you're saying about the percussion progression. the first album (how to clean everything) was just super straight punk/hardcore beats, allowing the guitar to do most of the rhythmic filling in. On a side note, I learned every single song on that album on guitar. NEAT pop punk tunes.
