anyone else use them?

what are your opinions?

i'm going to be completely honest... i splurged and purchased a set for my new snare and i honestly don't think they made my snare sound any better than a $7 generic snare.

yeah, i wasnt too suprised, i think it gave my snare a little more pop, but nothing worth paying 30 bucks for a set of strings, when i can get imported strings for like 5 bucks LOL

I have just bought some, they sound nice but again, not sure if they're really that much better than a cheap set...

Still it's early days, only been on a week and 2 days so maybe that opinion will change with time.

Grover snares are interesting. They're straight wires as opposed to spiral, made out of either silver or bronze. they're a bit more articulate, and don't buzz as much when you hit other drums.

As for the puresound, "I've never tried them. I just use the ludwig 20 strand ones.

yeah, I just saw that a few days ago! The portrayal of how drum shells are made was pretty poor in my opinion though..

yeah, i just enjoy watching anything drum related, after that they showed how they make zildjian cymbals and a few weeks later, i watched one where they made evans drum heads!

I bought the Puresound Super 30 for my snare and I really like it. Much better than my factory snares that laid on that drum for 12 years. That being said, I've not a lot of experience with different snares so I don't know how much better it is than say the $5 Gibraltor Snares, but I am happy with the Puresound and although I hope I don't have to buy new ones anytime in the next 10 years, lol, I wouldn't be mad about it.

I think what I like about the Super 30 is that it added sensetivity and articulation to the snare at low volumes, all while keeping sympathetic buzzing at reasonable levels.

I think and I could be wrong, but any snare can be loud and give a "crack" but a real test of a snare is at a lower volume. If I'm wrong about this let me know, but it makes sense to me

I have Puresounds on two of my Dynasonics. And for a Dynasonic, you just cant go out and buy any old generic.

Puresounds sound better to me and they are much more sturdy. I have yet to have strands break off a set of Puresounds.

Yeah I agree with Timekeep about the durability. I've got a Yammy Abso Noveau and the stock snare bed it came with has pinged a few of the wires over 3 years of light-ish use. I've had a set of puresounds for 6 years now and they still sit beautifully on the Drum their fitted to. DW snares come with good quality snare beds as well.

Sound wise the puresounds seem to have a more relaxed sound and feel to them. I quite like it for some stuff but I've had trouble getting the tight snap thing out of them. Maybe it's the model I landed up with.

I noticed Bodiesblazed pointed out that he got a small improvement (for him) but felt it was not worth the 30 bucks more. Well in any endeavor from musical instruments to pro level sports equiptment, to.......well anything that requires invention and high precision engineering, even a 1/2 percent improvement can cost thousand if not millions (eg think of those running suits in the Olympics for that extra 10th of a second over a guy wearing shorts). 30 bucks on a better snare sound is money well spent if that snare suddenly performs to your expectation. Otherwise we should all just pack this forum in and all play CB kits from the Bedroom up to Madison Square gardens. An extra 30 bucks, or an extra 700 on a Vintage or a Custom Snare? I know what I would prefer to spend.
