Pinstripes are pretty much the industry standard.

I purchased 3 clear Pinstripes for my Toms yesterday and I seriously haven't stopped playing since I put em on. I had crappy stock ones on that sounded awful and for the type of drumming I do they fit in perfectly. Hopefully you're better at tuning than I am though. O_o

I'd go with the pinstripes too... I used them for years playing metal. They're great for a fat tone on large and small drums.

im shit at tuning so at the minute my pinstripes dont sound too good. Im sure when they are uned properly they will sound awsome and not flat and nasty like they do now

Most Metal drumming is an aggressive style, meaning that almost all metal drummers hit quite hard.
You will need heads that are designed with durability in mind.

 pinstripes
I use pinstripe tops and ambassador bottoms. For all you guys having tuning trouble, make sure not to ignore tuning the bottom head too! Its one of the biggest tuning rookie mistakes, If your toms are making that Woof AFTER you hit the drum...Tune your bottom head first, or get new bottom heads!!!!! Very important!

I've always used clear pinstripes on the batters and ebony ambassadors on the resos and have LOVED the way they sound.

I usually opt for the coated emperors on toms; I don't think ambassadors will be quite durable enough if you play hard. I know a lot of guys swear by pinstripes, but the emps seem a little more resonant to me. Depends on what you're after, sound-wise, I suppose.

Pinstripes for toms, Emperor X or PowerStroke 4 for snare and Powerstroke 4 for bass.
