 sabian and zildjian
I it just me or is sabian far surpassing zildjian? My reasoning is a Sabian AAX cymbal pack is $599.99 and the zildjian a or a custom pack is about $750. And their about the same lines of Quality right?

Brother it all comes down to the point that Zildjian has been around forever it seems. Both companies make fine cymbals but a name and quality goes a long way and brings the money with it. P.O.Y!

 Re: sabian and zildjian
From my memory, Sabian has always had a slightly lower price-point than Zildjian. Both companies make high-quality cymbals. Many people go with the most recognized name when making purchases, and, as compared to Sabian, Zildjian is the most recognized name.

I really like K's and A customs as far as Zildjians go. I like the HH's, HHX's and Vaults as far as Sabians go. My favorite cymbals are UFIP's. I've played on just about every brand of high-quality cymbal made, and they all make products I like.

Sabian and Zildjian used to be the same company so their cymbals are very similar. I like sabians better though.

i think both brands are good and have diffrent qualities between them, zildjain, i love the crashes and their crisp high-hats, sabain has great effect cymbals like chinas and splashes. thats why i love to mix zildjian and sabian up. in my opinion, best of both worlds. as far as ride cymbals go, i'll just stick to my sabian HHX groove ride for awhile. even though its to dark for my bright crashes, ohh well, replace it later on.

One question to ask yourself, can you tell the brand of a cymbal on a recording, or even live when you can't see the logo?

They both made great cymbals. If I'm not wrong, the maker of Sabian is from Zildjian family who separated with his brother(Armand Zildjian), think he's Bob Zildjian or something... Anyways... It's preference. In my opinion, I prefer Zildjian even though it's more expensive, but mixing them would be great too! If not mistaken, Zildjian makes more variety of cymbal sound than Sabian since Zildjian is a way older company than Sabian.

I much prefer sabians to zildjians but neither is better really. I also play Istanbul, saluda, wuhan, and paiste. pick cymbals on sound, not on name.
