I'm thinking about getting some new cymbals, and what I really had my eyes on were the Carmine Appice Signature Devastation Chinese, and the Mike Portnoy Signature Max Stax.
I've played a Carmine Appice once before, and I loved it, but it was a while ago. Would you guys recommend it? And would you say the 17" or 19" is better, if I already have an 18" AA Metal-X China?
And I know the Max Stax sound incredible on Portnoy's kit, but I've never played them for myself. Would you say its a reasonable bargain, and worth looking into, or should I invest in the new APX Choppers? Or even create my own stacks?

trust me dude mike portnoy is my favorite drummer and i can tell you as cool as those things are, they are not worth as much as they are and you will kick yourself in the ass when you realize you could make your own for much less and probably suited more for your playing than the stax


but if you have the money and just want to have authentic stax just like portnoy, then go ahead

im with shane. portnoy is my favorite drummer but when i saw the price on the stax i knew that i wouldnt be buying them. if you want a good set of stax for a lot less, talk to jamie at saluda and ask for stax made to the portnoy specs. my guess is that whatever you get will be less than $130 usd and will sound just as good because, lets face it, youre putting 2 cymbals on top of each other that arent supposed to be there.
