set up into the wall or facing away?
a lot of people who have the drums at home dont always have tons of open space for them. a few pictures ive seen on this site have people with their sets set up facing into the wall. I have myne set up with my back to the wall, and the drums pointing out, how do you have yours set up?

Mine aren't set up at the moment seeing as I have small amounts of time between playing gigs. So mine are stacked up, waiting to be loaded into my car at the moment. When I do have time to set up and play at home, I usually have mine facing away from the wall.

It depends. If I don't want to be distracted they face to the wall. If I want to see something else other than a wall I face the other way. I haven't noticed much in terms of sound difference.
pinkidrummer, do you play your toms at those angles? I've never seen them set up like that!

Yep! It feels easier being left-handed and such.

I'm not trying to knock your set-up or anything, but I have a question. Wouldn't it be easier on you to set up left handed? Although by setting up and playing righty style, you end up playing open instead of cross over which opens up a whole world of possibilities.

Well that is the weird part. I don't go by the rules or you can say I'm not normal. Because I am left-handed playing kinda righty-style.

Lol my friend is right anded and plays open but my drums are like totally tuned a weird way. My Uncle came over and cut up some towels and put em in the drum tight. He tuned with a keyboard. +you can see my band box in the left hand corner.

Set up across from a wall with a large mirror on it. It becomes easy to critique yourself. You can pick out your flaws and overall look. Elbows etc..

Not sure why, (even though I have a theory) but the first time I saw Rage against the Machine, at Lollapalooza 1993, their drummer set up backwards with a mirror in front of him. There were 46,000+ people there, maybe he was nervous.

I play away from the wall with a sheild in our studio and have a practice kit facing the wall in my garage at home. Facing seems to cut the noise that can be heard from outside. Peace on ya!
