OK guys here's the deal..

i have a 14x5 maple snare with stainless steel hoops with 20 strand snares ambassador snare side and genera G1 coated batter

low or high? and how can i get rid of most of the ring?

I suggest you tune it higher. And if you want to get rid of the ring, you can put duct tape on the batter side on the edges of the head. or you can buy muffling rings.

I'd say tune it as you prefer- high or low etc. When you get the right pitch, gently put one finger on the head near the edge ( barely touching the head ). That should muffle the drum a bit getting rid of some ring. Now strike the drum and see if it sound good to your liking. I use this finger muffling technique to see how the drum sounds, how much it rings and how the snares respond, before I try to put some muffling on it.
