Post Soundproofing
Hey this is my first post and I was wondering if any of you folks could help me out a lot here. I'm in the military, so I move a lot, and I live on a base, so housing rules are a bit different than buying/ remodeling a house in Anytown, USA. I want to be able to play my drums in the garage, but I need to soundproof/ dampen the noise a bit so my neighbors don't complain, cos after like two complaints I can get in some kinda serious trouble. My most major dilemma is not the fact that I need to soundproof on a budget, but that the soundproofing needs to be easily removable, because I can't leave this house as is when I move, I must revert it to its original state. Also, I live in Oklahoma, and the summer's get quite hot here so I need to keep it as cool as possible since leaving the door open isn't an option. Any ideas would be immensely helpful! Thanks in advance and sorry for writing so much!

Find aplace to get some carpet. It's amazeing what a layer of burber can do. My friends went to a carpet wholesale place and were GIVEN yards and yards of free carpet. People that de re-models have to pay to dispose of carpet and would gladley give some up I'm shure. Welcome to dml.

I think your probably better off buying an electric drum set or a pratice pad kit. You may also consider dampening pads for your drums and cymbals.

It usually isn't cheap or easy to sound proof enough to make anybody happy but good luck.

Father Time has a great suggestion there. I'd also look into some egg crating to go along with the carpet remnants. Any fabric that's somewhat thick can absorb sound. Also, Scrogs' suggestion is spot-on. You can even build your own practice kit out of wood and a used car tire.

All you'll need to do is build some posts for the snare and toms, nail some flat pieces of wood to the posts, and cover them with cut sections of tire. You can even design a bass pad the same way to attach your pedal to.
