 Spaun Snares?
Does anyone play a Spaun Snare? I'm saving up my money for a good snare, because currently I'm using the one that came with my Pearl Forum kit. It's not horrible, I just want a upgrade. I was looking into Spaun, because from what I've played at Sam Ash they sound pretty good.
I play in an Alternative/Rock band, made up of all girls. Just thought I'd throw that in there.
Ah well, all help would be appreciated!
thanks

 hmmm
well I'm not too good with specifics.
Ha, I know what I want it to look like though, cause I'm big on aesthetics and I have a real good idea of what I want it to sound like.
could I email you by any chance?

Got the 6 x 13 steel snare, red vein. It's the best investment I've made for my kit. Very versatile, tunable, good-looking, record able. It's nice, affordable, durable, and top-notch quality.

the only thing i'd mention regarding spaun snares is that there's a pretty big difference in quality between the $229 guitar center spauns and the snares you'd order from a spaun dealer and wait 4-6 weeks for.
i'm pretty sure that the guitar center spaun snares (mainly that coke bottle acrylic) are manufactured over seas while their high-end drums are hand made in california.
it's very similar to the pork pie little squealer snares. those are mass produced in japan and aren't nearly as high quality as an actual pork pie drum.

My snare of choice. I've left the stage with bleeding ears because of this thing...
sarcasm... is right, those coke bottle snares don't really compare to the customs. I toured with a guy who had a coke bottle Spaun and was not impressed with it in the least.

Have Timekeep build one for you. I go with the rest of the guys on this one. Spaun has their low budget imports as well as their high end hand builts, which is what their reputation rests on, just like all the other companies.

And PJ has great quality. From what I've seen and heard, his bearing edges are awesome. That's half the battle.

Personally, I would go with whatever suits your fancy... Everyone has their own opinion of how a snare sounds and how its tuned, go with one you like... I play a Mapex Maple Black Panther damn good snare... Anything will be better than the stock one given with the kit.
good luck to ya, sonny

Zendrummer is a very experienced drummer, thats something you can't fake. And he says hes seen $1000 snare drums where the bearing edge was not nearly as good as the bearing edge on the medicine man snare he reviewed.

The bearing edges on my toms and kick are flawless; just perfect.
If you are looking for a name, there is probably nothing we can say that is going to change your mind. But if you are looking for a great DRUM, then I have 100% confidence that Timekeep69 can and will build it for you.
