Post Speed King Versus Axis?
I'm going to get a direct drive pedal, I'm sick of these sluggish chain drive that everybody seems to sell!

Tricks looks sweet but are HUGE coin!

I see some decent SK's and Axis pedals used on EBAY that are affordable

Which one of these pedals if you had a choice would you go with and why?

Thanks Cool

Speed Kings Squeak, Axis is a better pedal... BUT... speed kings FEEL really GREAT!

Very very fast, too...

Too bad they rattle and squeak!

and there's nothing you can ever do about the squeak. they're sooo fast. not real sturdy tho. I've broken a couple. also love the ghost pedals.

The new SK's squeak too?

I have a Elim DB pedal now. I think I am going back to a single pedal anyway. SK's or Axis will be my next purchase. I did see a really nice used Trick for about $300.00, but that's a lot of cheddar for a pedal.

Which pedal plays faster SK or Axis?

Every bit as bad as the old ones!

Pedals don't play... People do! Some people can play faster on an Axis, others can play faster on a Speed King. It's all about the driver and his or her relationship with the machine.

I tried em out once. I liked em. The only thing I've ever heard negative about em is that the springs aren't strong enough.

True very true.... I guess I was looking for personal expieriences. I played a SK once, I remember it squeaking like a Mofo, but it was butter. My brother in law loves his Axis..

For $99 brand new I think it would be worth investigating

Heck, I personally am really in tune with my DW5000. The extra mass seems to work to my advantage. I have no problem pulling off doubles or really syncopated fast rhythmic figures on it. I suppose a lot of it is just being used to it. I've played DW 5000's since 1994. I could blaze on my double pedal when I had it.

To be honest there have been DW pedals that I liked, none that I have loved. IC's and the Elims feel OK, but again still not totally comfortable with any of these pedals. I have played every DW DB model out there, some very well broken in models that my friends own. Again they feel OK, I think I need to go with a direct drive...that chain/strap design most pedals have just doesn't do it for me. I have Elims now for about 3 months tried every cam, and adjustment one can think of..they are sluggish! I use to have this OLD Sonar pedal, looked like a Ghost Pedal but it had a leather strap. Best pedal I ever played. The next best would have been an old Speed King I play in middle school.

yeah, I really dug my speed kings when I played them, but now I get on them and they feel totally flimsy. also, I can't justify playing a pedal that I have such an easy time breaking in loud situations. on one I had, I broke the casting that goes between the springs that the beater fits into. on another, I broke the footboard. I've gone through several of the metal pieces that hook the pedal to the beater as well.
