Post strong crash cymbals
Both my PST 5 crashes 17" and 19" cracked within a week .. Shocked that was a bad evening.

What cymbals would you guys recommend which may survive a tank rolling over them?

Or should just live with it that crash cymbals crack every 1 to 1.5 years? Damned I thought I was careful...

trstn

Higher quality cymbals tend to out live lower quality ones. A year and a half for PST5s isn't too bad. But there's really no specific brand that will outlast all others. Just go for some decent quality cymbals that aren't too thick - thick cymbals don't vibrate as well and brake easier because they don't have the same flex.

Everything else is just technique, mounting, and general cymbal care.

i've always heard the thing about thinner ones last longer, but in my experience that's not the case.

i got a sabian chad smith signature 20.5" crash cause it was thin so i thought it'd last. and it didn't. maybe a month and a half until it started cracking.

z custom anything will probably work for you. they're just not as musical as some other cymbals.

That's because the Chad crash is B8 alloy, not B20.

Check this out; http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=140766&songID=5740229. The crash cymbals are a 16" AAXPlosion, 18" AAX Metal Crash, and a 19" AAXPlosion. I've had these cymbals, as a set, for three years and I've played everything from pop/rock to metal with them. I have a pretty heavy hand, too.

On this note... Thinner crash cymbals (used with proper technique) should out-live thicker crash cymbals (and i am stressing crashs not rides). Thinner cymbals have the ability to bend and disperse energy better than big thick ones (unless as thick as a ride or somethin).
