Post Swivel Technique
Swivel is a good technique right?

It's the only one that I've tried that has kept my feet on the pedal and allowed me to manage the rebound, when I get farther along will this technique still be a good one?

Theres no such thing as the swivel technique. No Kollias does not use swivel. He uses ankles. The swivel technique is something ONLY for realllllly high bpm drumming like 240-280 i'd say and for intermediate at like 180-210 to help keep balance and whatnot.

The swivel is just a side-to-side motion using either ankles or flatfoot technique to help balance out the stress on your muscles when doing hi bpms for extended amounts of time.

Get it. Very Happy

check out derek roddys flat foot technique.

Notice how hi his throne is. This helps A LOT as well as scooting your throne back.

If this feels comfy try it. If not find yourself a technique that does.

I tihnk I figured out my foot won't stay on the pedal, I busted my slave pedal.

It's lost all feeling to it and rebounds wildly.

Sad

there definatley is a swivel technique. one of the guys i went up against in the wfd contest used it. no up and down motion at all. there are alot of variations. some of which incorperate aspects of other technique. its a good technique. but i dont like it because i believe when playing metal, motion is your enemy. the less motion the better

Kollias can hit around here. Other than that it goes into heel-toe. Brett Batdorf does 290. Search him on youtube.

I suggest consulting an orthopedic specialist before attempting to master such a technique. I doubt the ankles, knees, or joints were meant to twist like that, but I'm no doctor.

Good technique is all about working within the natural design of your muscle and bone structure. Just because something works well in the short term doesn't mean it's good for the long term. If I could get just this across to young drummers we'd have a lot more drummers playing beyond their 30s.

I use the swivel technique when playing metal and double bass, but modified to some degree. My foot can't fit on the pedal all the way, so I tend to swivel back and forth with my right foot. My left foot doesn't though...it's odd...but eh. It works for me.

It would be nice if they showed his feet. Without triggers.

That sounded very unnatural until he started having time problems. Very strange indeed.

Excuse me if I sound old, but I don't know about swivel or what it has to do with speed or technique. One thing that I can offer to multi pedal users is to wear smooth bottom shoes, so you can slide from pedal to pedal smoothly and quickly. It works for me.
