Post tama metalworks snare drum
Wuz up guys?!!

Just joined a couple of minutes ago. I have a Tama Metalworks snare that I love. It's a 6.5 x 14. Loud, good crack......will pierce through anything. Just wondering how to tune this thing properly. I use an Evans Power Center Reverse Dot Batter and a 300 Hazy on the snare side. Tune it high, and you will be the happiest drummer alive!!! But I'm trying to tune it a little lower, down to about a "G" to get that open, low, wet feel. The timbre of the drum is good, but the overtones and ringing are driving me nuts. I don't want to use my moon gels if I don't have to. Snare buzz is driving me up the wall!!!!! I'm using the Puresound Blaster snares. There the best you can buy for that drum in my humble opinion. I need to know any tips or how to's on this one. Thanks for your help. I would like to hear from any one who has and uses the snare drum, not any one who has only tried or heard it.

Unfortunately, I believe that deeper snares are harder to tune and will ring more if you try and go loose with them. I always keep the bottom head fairly tight and the snare tight too. Get the top about where you want it, turn off the snare and tap with a stick in front of each lug a couple inches and tune them so it sounds about the same tone all the way around. Matching the picth this way will reduce the harmonic buzz, but like I said, you may not get the sound you want from a snare that deep.

Overtones and ring are what you get with a metal snare. You're gonna have to use some kind of muffle to lessen it. As for snare buzz. First off, don't let it bother you, because it isn't really an issue, but if you really want to reduce it. You have to tune the snare higher and your toms lower, in most cases.

First off welcome to the board, it's a warm and fuzzy place. Secondly everyone here will tell you to get familiar with the drum tuning Bible, so check out the link, and enjoy.

peace
