Post that second snare drum...
yeah, alot of people use two snare drums, am i right in saying that the one they mainly use (the one between their legs) tends to be higher pitched?
well i considered doing this when i founda new stand for my old snare drum (actually the stand was really old), but i wasn't sure which snare was higher, so i set my old snare to my left and prepared to tune it when an idea hit me
dun
dun
duuuun
(sorry i'm being chidlish)
yeah so i said, why not try playing with it lower pitched first (since when ui compared the two snares ir ealised the odl one was quite loose and the new one was practicly at its tightest). so i had the higher in between my legs and the lower on my left, and my friends - twas peng.. twas truly peng.
as in, most of the songs i've played to sound better when i use a higher tuned drum, so i found i didn't need a snare that was higher than that, so i use the lower and looser snare less but, i still uses it and it sounds - peheeeng.
erm, yeah sorry about this,
i rate you fi you've read this far.

oh, so has anyone else done this? i'm guessing that alot of people have, so if you have give us a shout and tell me how you use that extra snare

awww, my playing time is over (next door neighbours daughter-who-doesn't-even-live-with-her has "sensitive ears") so i'm not allowed to play past 6 says the bossman (my dad).

in one of my older bands i used two snares. my main snare was a 12x7 tuned fairly high.

the one to my right (i'm a lefty) was either a 13x6 or a 14x5.5 and that one was tuned super loose.

i used that one mainly for quitter stuff.

I'm the opposite when I play 2 snares. I'll set up my acrolite to the left of the hihat cranked the hell up and my brass supraphonic tuned medium in the normal position.

acrolite = ludwig aluminum alloy snare drum with no plating. mine has 8 lugs and is 5x14

brass supraphonic = chrome plated brass ludwig snare drum from the early 60's. most ludwig supraphonics have a chrome-plated acrolite shell, but during two separate periods of time they used brass shells.

There are no rules to what get tuned and where it goes. Smile

Most people have the higher pitched snare as the side snare, though.

I would very much like those snares! Razz

Currently have a Tama Starclassic Birch Bubinga 14x5.5 for my main and a Tama hammered Steel (cheap and cheerful) 12x4 on the left.
