Post the new vintage
does anyone out there have any opinions about the new vintage shells (mahogany/poplar/mahogany shells with maple reinforcement rings) in comparison to "true" vintage drums of the 60's? i've been looking around town but i can't find anyone who's got any in stock.

nope, not at the moment. I can't even begin to afford something like that unless they sell me one layer at a time?

nice... i totally understand that. DW seems to be ridiculously expensive, don't get me wrong - it's probably worth every penny.... but that's a lot of pennies.

i've recieved an endorsement offer from C&C and i know that they have those shells. there's also Precision Drum Company, but again... i'm not too sure on buying anything before i hear it.

I had a custom kit made for me by Greg Gaylord in those shells. I couldn't be more happy. All my other kits are maple except one fiberglass Fibes kit so I wanted to try something new. The tuning range is much wider than maple especially in the bottom end, Here's a pic of the kit.

I remember seeing this kit in person at that drum show in Hollywood (my booth was right next to his)! Greg does make some great drums! I miss the Hollywood show being in the Remo center!
