Post The Purple People Eater...
I love looking at kits. I could spend hours searching sites like ours here to see what people use, how they set it up, and what some of us have finally had the opportunity to own. It was a long road of using CB700's, Avante (sp?) cymbals, and broken stands... There is a light at the end of the tunnel! After 30-years of playing, here's what I'm finally playing:
I got myself a DW kit off of eBay last spring, and outfitted it with Evans. There are 5 toms with mounts (10, 12, 14, 15, 16), but that's too many for me to manage! The kick is a 22. I switched my cymbals from vintage Zildjians to Zildjian's K Dark series, and love the sound of the drum/cymbal combination. There's a 13" K/Z combo (with Weckle and Smith's signatures...), an 8" splash, 16" medium crash, 17" fast crash, 18" medium crash, 21" A Sweet Ride [22" Dark Ride "on the bench"], 18" Trash, and a 14" closed and mounted HH. The snare is a sweet Pork Pie, tightened to the extremes, as well as a nice little 10" Pearl cracker snare that I mainly use as a timbale, or snare "ride". I've just incorporated a pair of Meinl short congas, as I've been trying to develop some 4-way independence... I made the trap table after seeing the price of one online, and am thinking about going into business with it. I picked up a way-overpriced DW 5000 series double kick/HH stand - one big unit. The thing is a pain because the hats rattle when using the double pedal, no matter how stale the legs are. I'm using a separate cow bell attached to a Pearl pedal, as well as some other "toys". The Gibralter throne was worth the money -- nothin' like a comfy seat. (The little drink holder comes in handy, but you have to be drinking something with a long neck, or your drink will get lost in it's depths!)
(The drum recording on my band's site doesn't do the drums justice -- just one mounted mic, a kick mic, and two overheads...yech.)
Thanks for checking my pics. (If they uploaded...LOL)

Cheers!

Very nice kit man. It looks wild. You got one of those things that giggles and rattles when you hit the circular end. What is that called again? It is above you aux snare and to the left a bit. that thing. haha

Welcome to the forums man.

OMG! Someone actually has the technicolor vomit wrap! No offense intended, that's just what we used to call that color in the drum shop I worked at. Very Happy

It's called a vibraslap...or another name for it is mandible.

Spedman, welcome to DML. Love the kit. It's got a nice finish. Awesome tunes, and the drums don't sound that bad for recording with what you had at the time. I've recorded with a little as two, and have it sound awesome!

Keep it up!

The vomit wrap ?!?!? My wife and I were dying with laughter at that reply!
I still need to find out more about the kit -- when I bought it used from a guy outside Nashville online, he couldn't offer me much info except that the kit has been on world and us tours. (With whom, I don't know.)
Yeah: vibraslap. BUT, don't bother with purchasing a mount for one -- they rattle here and there, and it's not that easy to get a good sound from it when it's mounted. The best is to just keep it on a trap table, or hanging off a stand until you need it...or give it to your vocalist.
Thanks for your feedback, gang, and for the warm welcome. Smile
