Post the "hot dogs"
i know most of you 'experienced' katz have ALL delt with people thinking they are the shit and dont know when to shut up...it sux when they are the drummers because in a way they represent wat we all do. Even on these forums ive seen ppl act like they are god's gift to drumming and stuff like that when they prolly suck...i just want to know how you would deal with these ppl both on and offline...

just put em in their place dude its not hard

Harsh, intense thoughts for any arrogant, stuck up mind can bring down any size of egotism.

Ima patent that...

We've all been there at some point. In any career or hobby or otherwise there's always going to be a "know-it-all". That type is usually scared to death on the inside or feels woefully incompetent and has to compensate somewhere.

There's always going to be someone who is faster, plays cleaner, has the more creative chops, etc. Then there's those who get all the gigs. Who do you think "hot dogs" more?

Finally, I leave you this photo

(my apologies to the non-sighted- it's a photo of two drummers- one with massive amounts of notes illustrated and the instructor saying "you're amazing"- the second being a drummer with "boom bap boom boom bap" written illustrating what HE is playing and the instructor saying "you're hired")

haha, that cartoon is great. not to mention 100% accurate. if drummers were hired purely on skill and chops alone i would be spending my days in the unemployment line or working fast food somewhere.

hahaha, that pictures great. and a way to "deal" with a hot dog is humor him. let him go on in his erroneous ways. it'll catch up to him someday.

No one ever got fired for playing too much groove. And that's not to say that if you have a mouthful to say on your instrument as we all do from time to time- get an outlet that embraces that desire. A "jam band" kind of situation. But if you have a gig that gives you regular work, it's good to bring to that table the sense of solid playing and less bullshit.

And I'll just wager that those of you who who truly understand the difference between drummer A and drummer B in that photo are out playing gigs.

I am a pretty straight forward guy. I can say that I have not ever been the "Hey look at me, I'm the best!!" kind of drummer. If I feel that a drummer has a big head and is playing it up then I just use the words of my big Brother.... Don't be a Dick!! We all have room to improve. People don't like egotistical types. Keep it real and be respectful. We are all musicians and have a love for what we do. Peace!
