 unorthodox drum sets
are there any bands with drummers, or just drummers that use an unorthodox drum set? i.e.: Victor DeLorenzo from the Violent Femmes.

Are you refering to a drumset that is quite out of the ordinary? Like where they have odd cymbals mostly.. or their setup is totally weird looking?

I would have to include Blue Man Group as having one of the most unorthodox drumsets EVER! They rock!

The kits that bell out like a tuba are called North Drums. They aren't made anymore. I own a kit. Mine are black on the outside and white on the inside. Sometimes they come up for sale on Ebay.

Mike Mangini had a set of almost all roto-toms years ago. I saw it on an old Steve Vai video. It was kind of odd looking.

these "North Drums", i didnt know thats what they are called, but i have a jam buddy who has a set, and they sound great. only drawback is that i found them rather hard 2 tune and get the sound im looking for out of, but once you get it, they sing beautifully. the only drummer i can think of iv'e seen use one would be Chad Channings or Dave Grohl. it was back in Nirvana's early days so more than likely it was Chad Channings.
