I'm a guitarist, but I just got my kids(and myself, I suppose) a lower end drum set for Christmas. It's going to be a project for me to upgrade it a little at a time - heads and cymbals first. I need to spend my money wisely and I know you drummers know the best ways of getting good deals on gear.

Anyone know what major music stores will have a decent New Years sale? In my area we have Guitar Center and Sam Ash. Or any other places that have great prices?

Those two places will definately have sales. They'll probably have stuff on sale tomorow.

Thanks for the info. I plan on getting hi hats first. Anyone have an opinion on hats for less than $100? Paiste PST5s, maybe?

IMO, Paiste PST 5's get you the most bang for your buck in the less than 100 price range.

Also Sabian B8's are worth looking at.

personally, i think the zildjian zbt hihats sound the best for the price. crisp and clean. i used mine for 3 years.
