well i'll start off with this: i'm only 18 so at this point i could only dream of doing it seriously. it started out as my parents requesting i play an instrument, so if course, i picked the loudest one. 4 years of snare drum lessons and school band and i got my first set. by now that set has gotten another 5 cymbals, still a 5-piece and i think my parents regret allowing me to get into it haha got a double pedal and started playing to the nearest death metal in arms-reach.

Saw Buddy Rich on the Muppet's and was hooked. At 10 we had to pick an instrument in school and that's how I got started. Got my first kit at 13 and never really looked back. I always loved the speed and power as well as the touch and feel of a drummer. Not only do they usually lead things but they don't have to be out front. You can sit back do your thing and people will appreciate the music, but my never know why. It's a person satisfaction for me, nothing more.

well, I started out playing piano as a kid. my interest in music continued. I used to bang on tupperware, pots and pans as a kid. When I started school band in junior high, they gave this musical aptitude test and I scored really high on it, due to having a piano teacher who was a total theory head. This led the band director to recommend strongly that I play french horn. I did, and sucked at it royally due to having braces. Some friends of my grandparents gave me an old crappy drumset during the summer between 7th and 8th grade, and I practiced my heart out every day meanwhile never touching my french horn all 8th grade year. When 9th grade came about, our school lost both its junior high and high school band directors. A couple weeks before school, we all came in to get in shape for marching at football games and meet the new band directors. I lied and said I was in the percussion section, and got away with it due to all the practicing I had been doing (I was actually more proficient than most of the high school drummers). This led to me picking up tympani, getting a good teacher who enabled some smokin' snare drum technique, playing drums in the school jazz band, and going to all-state band on tymps.

That's the long answer as to how I became a drummer. The short answer is that I've been banging rhythms on tabletops, pots, pans, tupperware, etc. since being kneehigh to a grasshopper, and my compulsion to play rhythms continues to this day. It's so much a part of who I am that there's no way I could ever see stopping completely.

If I don't play drums I don't eat. It's my job.

You got this all wrong. Drums rule. This should be directed at people who dont play and ask them "Why the fuck aren't you playing?????"
