well yeah. But i'm saying the price is cheap for a shell pack. I'm not comparing it to full setups.

Gretsch's quality is going downhill from what I seen. Maybe the prices are following.

Kinda makes me glad my renown maple was made almost 10 years ago.

i have seen the same ones around local shops brand new for even cheaper than that. a buddy of mine has an old gretsch set and it is killer. i really haven't been impressed with their newer kits, save a few.

i used to have that set. it was nothing spectacular, i bought it used. key words here are used to have. the bearing edges were kinda fucked up in a few places, the tom mounting setup wasent that great. they just felt cheap. i sold it and bought a PDP FS, im diggin the sound more from that. I got the pdp as a shell pack for 600 bucks..but it seems to be built alot better then the gretsch, sounds better to.

Because no hardware(stands), and you are shopping in the internet so the real price is maybe 200 bucks up..

I just read the reviews on these drums and I question the validity of these statements I'm reading here.
I have the catalina Maple and they Kick Ass. Here's 2 examples:
Quote:Experience w/product I own it Features Features: 9
Reviewer's Background Recording Engineer, Active Musician Quality quality: 8
Reviewer's Play Style Rock, Pop Punk, Jazz, Metal Value quality: 9
This set stood out to me with the free 8 inch tom...which with only four lugs sounds pretty amazing...the toms together blend perfectly with each other...and even the factory heads make this set sound studio quality right out of the box...if ur looking for a good set that won't dissapoint...THIS IS IT.....

I have played Pearls drums live and in the studio for 25 years. Last week I purchased the Gretsch Catalina Ash kit in Cobalt blue. I was very impressed with the quality and sound of this drumset. I used the kit last night for the first time live at a 1500 seater and these drums sounded amazing. Dont worry about this kit not having a 16" floor tom. You dont really need it. No matter what your age or experience level, this kit is a great purchase.

I paid 499 for my practice kit (shell pack, with tom mounts), and they are Catalina Birch.
