Post Wood types
Hi everybody!

I'd like to discuss about wood types used to build drums. What wood type do you prefer and why? Also - is mixing few wood types in one shell good?

I personally really like the sound of birch drums. I own a birch set, I like the punchiness of it and the power I can get out of it Smile

Let's talk,

loop

Maple...It's been the standard for a lot of years! You just can't go wrong with maple. Very Happy

I love walnut. My snare is a 6-ply Black Panther walnut, my set is a composite maple/walnut Saturn Pro- 4 plies of maple, 2 plies of walnut. I also have a custom 16x16 birch/walnut kick- 2 plies of birch/2 plies of walnut with reinforcement rings.

for a single wood that ive been able to play, birch owns maple imo. i really want to try out a solid african mahogany set and a bubinga set but i havent had the chance yet. i also really like the pearl reference but like i said, i want to try a solid mahogany set and solid bubinga so i cant vote yet.

Birch hands down.

Punch, cut, great tone, not too ringy but not just dull nothingness.

so far, I like birch.
I want to explore a little more though-
Acrylic is next. I can't imagine its tonal properties are exceptional, but I'm intrigued. I'm jonesing bad...
