Post Workouts help the double kick...
So I haven't had too much time to play my kit ( I'm in firefighter school ) and we get drilled pretty hard. Yesterday we climbed a 7 story tower 7 times ( without stopping ) with 80 extra pounds on us. It REALLY works the legs to say the least. Well with all this time away from my kit, I sat back down today for about 3 hours and hammered out some of the most accurate, fast, punchy double kick patterns in a while.

Moral of the story, do some leg work away from the kit. It makes a world of difference

That's why I always tell people to work out away from the kit. The more fit your muscles are, the easier it is to play. Smile

ya man, jogging and stairs really help me out. I was amazed, I sat down at the kit and started playing "barbarian" from august burns red like it was nothing. Normally I need a hefty warm up to hit that, but I can feel the difference.

dont just work on muscle strength, work on muscle ENDURANCE.

Those are two different things. Strength is doing work for short periods of time and very high energy levels. Endurance is what us drummers want, long, hard and fast beats. Some great endurance exercises for your legs are running up stairs with weights, jumping jacks, running, and calf raises. Some strength exercises would be squatting, leg presses, dead lifting, wall sits etc. My father is a personal trainer, i always ask him Smile

ps, get yourself some ankle weights, they are amazing.

when i was in high school i did four monster miles a day and 1 regular mile for cool down.

you run around the track to the bleechers and run up and back down every set of steps, run around the track to the other side and do the same thing. 4 complete times around the track equals 1 monster mile.

at the time i was doing this for boxing but it helped for drums alot.
