Yamaha Dtxplorer...any good?
So, I want to buy an electronic drumset, but don't know what to get?
In my price range, the Yamaha Dtxplorer looks nice and is a good buy.
Does anybody have this kit and if so, is it worth just to have for playing in an apartment?
I'm not playing live with it; I have my acoustic kit for that.

This a great buy and you won't be sorry because it has good features and they lowered the price down from 850 to like almost 700 so it is a good deal I currently own one and I am having a BLAST because you can play almost anytime! It's the best deal ever and the sounds are realistic! So get itnow because you won't find a better deal anywhere else!

Hello DRUMSMYWIFE!
I own a Yamaha DTXPLORER, and often get asked about what i think of it on my YouTube Profile.
he DTXPLORER (around $1400 Australian or 1200 USD) in my personal opinion is one of the best value for money mid range electronic kits on the market. It has 32 pre programmed kits, ranging from standard acoustic to rock, funk, electronic, tabla, latin percussion, and even horn stabs! You can also create your own custom kits. However, the kit does not feature MIDI IN. which basically means that you cannot add your own samples to the module. To do this, i use a Roland SPD-S.
The kit has held up phenomenally. I have owned it for a year now, and i am yet to encounter any problems. The kit is transported at least once a month for gigs- i fold up the frame and chuck all of the pads into a hardware bag. The bag gets thrown around a bit, but this is yet to affect the sound quality or integrity of the drums.
The kit also features an Auxilliary line in, which means you can play along to your favourite mp3's, which is convenient. It also features stereo line out (for recording purposes) and a separate headphone jack.
I have added a Roland PD-8 dual trigger drum pad to my DTXPLORER. This replaces my snare drum. By default, the dtxplorer does not feature dual trigger pads. this means that there is no cymbal choke (you cant grab a cymbal to stop the sound prematurely) and also, there are no rimshots on the snare drum. however, the module (brain) of the kit IS designed to support dual trigger snares and cymbals. so if you wanted this functionality, it is an easy upgrade to make.
One really handy thing is an input for an additional pad on the kick drum. though the explorer only comes with 5 drum pads, 1 kick pad, 1 high hat control, and 2 cymbal pads, you CAN add another pad (as i have) without any difficulty.
Other features include a built in click track, a drum tuning function, sound effects, and VERY easy portability.
If you decide your budget is a little bit bigger, then DEFINATELY go with a Roland td-6 or td-20(THOUGH VERY EXPENSIVE!). if you can get a v-drum kit (the ones with mesh heads) then do so. they feel very realistic to play on, and the rim shots on them are fantastic.
I hope this gives you a little bit of insight into the dtxplorer!
If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to drop me an email.
Take it easy and keep on rockin'

I tried this kit a while ago and don't really like the feel of it. I prefer the DTXpress since you can do more stuff with it like cymbal choking.

dtxplorer
Can you add a dual or 3 zone ride to this? Or a 2 zone snare? With the module that comes with it, can you use a splitter to just input one pad in and get the different sounds? I just got this set this week and like it but would love to have a more functional ride cymbal.
