You Don't Know How Much You Love A Person Until They're Gone
Hey Nathaniel,
I heard the news on Friday, I couldn’t quite believe it. You of all people, committing suicide, it didn’t make sense. You could be a pain sometimes, and sadly I didn’t realize how cool of a guy you could be until you died. We used to be tent buddies and carpool to all the camps and outtings together and we’d stick together often. We’d always light stuff on fire too haha. Remember setting the styrofoam box on fire? Or the time that we made a hole about a foot deep and made our own fire right outside our tent at 3 AM? Man, those were the days. I went to your house today, saw your mom and talked to her a little bit, it’s really going to be completely different without you man. Who’s going to bring the football or the matches to the camp-outs anymore? Who’s going to be a great leader and SPL like you? I regret that I never got to be great friends with you, I let the negatives about you get too much in the way, it wasn’t your fault either. You used to cook all the time at the campouts and I remember all the competitions and stuff we had at the Kern River rafting trip.
I’m so sorry that this had to happen man, I didn’t realize how much I loved you until after you were gone. You were one of the happiest kids I knew and I wish it had stayed that way, so I guess this is goodbye. I’ll see you up there one day.
Sincerely,
Chris Glaser.

What's this from?
I've found that be very true, from personal experiences.

It was something I posted on my blog because my friend had just passed away.

Geez, man sorry. Life is funny that way, you grow up thinking it's never gonna change. Than when it does you wish it hadn't. I look back on my high school years and I could write a list of all the people that are not around anymore. Remember the good times, and never let his memory die.

It was so weird, it's only my Freshman year and I had heard so many stories of people's friends dying during HS that I started thinking that I'd have at least one good friend die before I'm done with high school, and bam, this happens.

All I can tell you is keep your head up. Life brings many trials and triumphs. Focus on good and not bad. There are probably many folks here that have dealt with similar situations. I have myself and I can tell you that things always get better. Peace on ya!

Sorry for the loss, bro.
Like Stump said, a lot of us have been through the shit and the sun really does continue to rise. Take heart in the fact that aren't alone right now.

Yeah, I've been through it too many times, and they have all left a mark. I'm real sorry for your loss. Try not to let it harden you emotionally as it started to do to me. Remember the good, and don't get mad, you can't change this now.

I've lost a lot of friends over my 28 years, and I'll be honest: it never gets any easier. The best you can do is take life one day at a time (I know its cliche, but it really is true) and try to keep your friends close. And like Garrett said, the sun will continue to rise.

I've been through that a couple times with friends, once due to a drug addiction leading to od (I still consider it suicide rather than an OD, but that's just the way I feel about it given circumstances). The important thing for me was to remember what I loved about the person and not blame myself. It's really easy to blame yourself in that situation, but it was their choice and they made it. It's really sad when it happens to someone that has a ton of potential and what appears to be a great life, but it's impossible to completely get into someone's head and see everything from their perspective. Just don't fall into the 'would have should have could have' trip and beat yourself up over something that isn't your fault.
