the guitarist in my band is being a complete douche, hes now quitting but telling us we cant use the guitar riffs he made up how ridiculous is that? cuz technically the songs belong to the band it was always a group effort to write a song he would come in with a riff i would think of a beat and teh singer would write lyrics what do you guys think of this? do you think hes being ridiculous or do you think hes right and we shouldnt use his guitar riffs?

Her is beign bitter.
If he doesn't have it copywritted then you can use it all you want. i mean really...what is he going to do... sue you? He really can't.
You were a band when you all made them...call it creative insight. your still a band except he has decided to leave. All on his own. therefore I don't really see a problem in using his riffs. Are they really worth it? If he is such a douche... Then his riffs can't be that good.
Riffs are free...mand...just read my sig.

its not that they're great or anything but we're starting to get a following and people know some of the songs so we want to stick with whats familiar then when we get a new guitarist start slowly writing new stuff and kind of steering away from the old stuff..i have the songs copyrighted lol i did it a while ago cuz he was bitching about people stealing them i say the songs belong to the band and we should keep going with them

Well I guess that would make me a typical bitter guitarist and songwriter too.

I don't think that's cool at all. Even if they're not Copyrighted, they're still his riffs. Very disrespectful and not professional at all. No offense intended, but I think you're being a bit selfish just because now you'll have to come up with different parts if you don't use his riffs. I can understand if that's a pain in the ass, but if it were me, I would try to write something new.

Try to look at it this way too. Maybe his replacement, or whomever, will come up with something better.

If you have them copyrighted and his name is in there, or he was a member at the time, yes, he can sue you. It's happened to bigger artists than you, and they lost.

his name isnt in the copyright, and we dont plan on using the songs forever...we have a show coming up october 27th and he quit leaving us in a bind we cant write all new material by then...plus like previously stated we plan on using our songs just because people are familiar with them and once we get a new guitarist and this show is done we are going to start writing new stuff

also hes trying to tell us once he moves hes going to release our songs on his own and try to profit from it...his riffs or not, they're my beats and the singers lyrics so why should i give him respect if he shows none to me? he started acting like a child and posting bulletins on myspace calling us poser and fat ass bitches....and we didnt even do anything to him this was before the whole song argument came up we told him good luck and we wish him well and he starts posting this crap and calling himself a legacy hahaha hes such a douche

play the songs at the show and tell the audience to expect some new stuff next time. then ditch his songs and write, write, write!

Oh well that's not cool either. I hear ya there. He's not behaving very well about it either. No wonder you're irritated about it.

Either way, I'd go with just putting the guy behind you and writing better stuff at some point in the near future. Eventually you're gonna wanna do that anyways right? Keep writing better and better songs. He's history. Smile

If he tries making profit off of the songs without giving you your fair share, then I'd definitely go after him. I was just saying that I'm seeing it the other way too. If you make money off of it, I really think HE deserves some of it.

This is one of the reasons why I'm really enjoying writing and recording everything by myself at the moment, and just playing drums in another band where I sit back and let others kinda call the shots for the most part. Seems more people are happy this way for us. Anyways, best of luck with it!

ill show you how much of an ass he is, after we all wished him well and good luck in his future endevours he posted this

"andy palmer the man who writes all the music for code blue is now out of the band , what ever you may hear on the radio interview coming up, code blue has now lost it's prime legacy, don't be fooled by future guitar palyers , code blue was my idea, and my music, so therefore code blue is unavalible, to play shows with andy palmer form this day forth and code blue was my name for the band so whatever people may say i was the music, and i listen to punk more than anyone of those guys/gal

again thanks to my fans, and future ones to come, code blue will now officaly R.I.P. it's stuiped to carry on my dream and music if it dosent have me , so therefore i will be releaseing our cd by next year some time with my music, maybe our lyrics, i also plan on releaseing my first band "big richard" agian with hopeful it's orginal line up, and i plan to hopefully play in a band in maryland, called "All hallows eve " so i will continue writeing music for people and future fans to come so please listen to me , i will tell you more if you are interested in hearing our history, just e-mail me , don't support a bunch of posers, or people not into punk rock , agian my band, my dream , my legacy, but i will say the "grunge" lyrics are not mine so don't jude me by that , please e-mail for any ? thanks

andy palmer "

kind of shocked us cuz we were all like what the hell is his problem we did nothing to him he is the one that quit,he calls us posers cuz all he listens to is punk like danzig and the misfits, everyone else in the band expands their horizons and listens to everything..punk,grunge,ska,metal,hardcore we listen to it all we're not closed minded like him and i love how he says we'll r.i.p. cuz we're definatley not breaking up cuz of him his head is way too big and he definatley needs to step off of his high horse

I think I have a few cents to throw in here.....Our band started getting a bit of attention around Tx, quite a bit of airplay on about 50 stations (enough to keep us in the top 20 of the Texas chart since April) and several high profile shows (Billy Bob's this Saturday night!).

Then our guitar player had a baby. His first. And he was out of vacation/sick time at work in June. We had a bunch of shows lined up, several in distant towns, several on weekdays, and he just couldn't afford to lose his job and not be able to support his family. And he wanted to be home more often for his new son.

He quit the band, and fortunately for us, said (in writing) he wants no part of the profits as long as he is no longer responsible for his part of the debt the band carries (which is now almost paid up). Fine by us. We'll split it 3 ways now.

But people all over Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma have heard the songs as they are on the album, and during our live performances we like to keep the songs as close to it as possible. Of course we mix things up here and there for the sake of putting on a good show, but signature licks are signature licks. Eric Clapton's "Cocaine" wouldn't be the same without that lick. We have played with a couple of great guitar players who are totally capable of playing the songs as they are on the album, and they do, which I think is to our benefit. We don't have a lot of people coming up to us after the show saying, "man, he didn't play it as good as Chris played it."

Familiarity brings comfort, and even if the new guy played something way better than the old part, if it was much different, our average fan may not like it, simply because it is not what they are used to hearing.

see the reason i want to continue with those songs are for those exact reasons..people are familiar with them now and have begun singing along i think the idea of using them but just having the guitarist play his own way to it would be cool....i just think our former guitarist is acting like a child about this whole ordeal..to post things calling us names and to call himself a legacy just makes me laugh because he wants us to break up because of him he wants us to "miss" him and beg him to come back and since we're not hes being a low life and bashing us
