 your worst cymbal breaking experience
it going to happen, we dread it, but we cant stop it
it will happen.
my worst cymbal breaking would have to be my
20inch hhx evolution ride, that baby worked with me for
two years without budging, but i let my friend play
a few month back(bad mistake he beats the crap out of things)
, and after he got off and i played it, it chipped a bit
i cut out a golf ball sized U in the drum to stop the crack
but its doomed. it makes a trashy sound know that i sorta like
but i miss it dearly.

i was playing, i had 2 splash cymbols a 8" and a 12" and i put my stick straight thru my 12", wasnt a huge deal wasnt over expensive, but then i did it to my 8" i was like god damn it to hell
then my mate who borrowd my 18" crash dropped it on the cement, put a big crack in my best cymbol.. was spewin
but i rekon they would b my worst braking of cymbols wen i did both splashes in like 20 minutes

i forgot one...
i was playing one day and thought i heard a sizzling noise coming from my zbt 16" crash. i looked and didnt see anything so i kept playing, but the sound was still there. i looked harder and found 2 tiny cracks. i then looked at my 14" planet z crash to make sure that it was ok, and there was a crack in it too. these werent great cymbals but i was still a little disappointed because they were the first ones id ever cracked. just to make sure i wasnt completely cursed i inspected the 18" paiste sig full crash that i had just gotten off of ebay 2 days before that (my dream cymbal that i had finally gotten) to make sure it was ok and...lo and behold, a crack in the center of the cymbal. needless to say, i was more than a little bummed...
i dont think i played for 3 days after that. but, my paiste has held up very well over the past year and a half (considering its my main crash and there is now a 1.5" or so crack dead center of the cymbal, going against the lathing) and i just know that when it finally gives way completely i can check out something else for my collection.
the 2 zildjians have been long since retired.

well... my first pair of hihats was some that came with my first set, a sunlite. cheap, crappy pair. didnt even make a chick noise when you closed the pedal, but a clang noise. when they first started to crack, there was no stopping there. 2 weeks later, not just cracks, but whole pieces were missing. one cymbal had a chunk 3 inches long 1 inch wide missing. the same cymbal also had a crack that went to about midway, and about 2 or 3 other pieces about 1 by 1 inches missing. the bottow was even worse, the same think times 2. ooooo, but i was a poor little boy back then, i played them for like 4 months after that until i finally saved up enough money to get the zildjian zbt pro 4 pack. dont much like the crash, since it fell to pieces in like 2 monts, but im still using the hi hats and the ride 3 years later, and they havent failed me yet. not the greatest but they serve me well and im not ashamed of them. but yeah, the sunlite hihats from hell, worst ever. i actually have them hung on my wall in plate racks, just for sentimental value.

I've been playin' with a Zildjan A Custom 18" Crash with this trapezoid-el chunk out of it. Still sounds great, and works great, and the funny thing is i never have to worry about hitting right in the gap and cracking the cymbal uber bad, because the missing chunk edge always swings upwards, cause its lighter. Gravity likes me. 'Cept when i fall down the stairs.

I managed to crach an 18" Zildjian Rock crash all the way around the bell. One day in rehearsal, the rest of the cymbal fell off the stand and down the shaft.
I am going to sound like an old fart here......
Ludwig had a slotted snare drum in the early 1980s that did basically the same thing only there were no adjustable slots.

Mine would have to be the day I discovered a crack in my all-time favorite cymbal, my beloved Zildjian 17" A Medium Crash/Ride. I about bawled, since I knew I would never find another cymbal that sounded like it. It now resides in my basement, on the wall. I turned it into a clock.
